And that is that.
The regular season is over and we have learned a few things...
A) I am a much better picker than the Mystery Guest.... that will be a drink of my choice - just head to your local gasery and pick-up any flavor of C4/Bang/Ghost Energy drink.
B) Sometimes, making moves really does help the process...
- Take ARBL for example: started off 1-3, made a few trades to get then go 3-1 the next four weeks and then battled from there to make the playoffs.
C) Sometimes, making moves really does help the process....
- Take Frosted Flaccos (or whatever he is calling himself now), he has the most transactions through acquiring and dropping and he finished tied for 1st place.
D) Sometimes, going down with the ship is just that - going down....
- 4 of the 5 teams to not make a trade did not make the playoffs, The J-Bones being the only lucky survivor... and now he has to face Maye/CMC and the boyzzzzzzzz
E) It took us 14 weeks, but someone broke through into Record Books... thank-you formerly known as Project Tush Push for your willingness to only score 48.5 points.
Let's look at some End of the Year Awards
MVP: Trey McBride, TE - Bake it til ya Make it
I can hear it now, all the chatter about how it is stupid that a TE won MVP. But hear me out.... Trey McBride is outscoring the 2nd best TE by 5 points a week. Can you imagine going into every matchup with that type of advantage? To put it in perspective.... McBride would be the 4th best WR, 6th best RB, 8th best QB. Mcbride is also one of the most consistent fantasy contributors, he only had 1 week where he scored less than 10 points - and he scored 9.1 during that week. He could easily find himself being drafted in the 1st round next year.
Steal of the Draft: Javonte Williams, RB - AR's Finger
AR's Finger may have finished 2-12, but they still take home an award for having the best find. Javonte Williams was drafted in the 7th round and finished as the 12th best RB in the league. Let's put that in perspective... he was drafted as the 35th RB. He also finished with only 2 weeks less than 10 points which is something that any one of us would sign up for having in a 7th round pick!
Diamond in the Rough: Harold Fanin, Jr, TE - Cleveland Streamers
First off, Fanin has had a wild ride when it comes to the fantasy world in our league. He was drafted 219th in the 16th round and dropped two days later by Cleveland Streamers. Then 1st Downs Syndrome picks him up for about month before he drops him on October 10th. Cleveland Streamers picks him up two days later and Fanin finishes with Daddy Streamers.... back to the place he first started. Fanin, Jr is the 6th best TE and is averaging 11.1 points per week - definitely solid work for a pickup in a position that sometimes can be a crapshoot.
Team to Beat: Nips and Salsa
There is always something about being the team to beat.... they usually get beat. Nips and Salsa have come close to winning the league before, but they have never been able to lift the Ron Jeremy. In 2016, they had a powerhouse team - only to get upset by a Kiddie Kisser. In 2018 they also had a banger of team, scoring in the top 5 most points scored in the league history... early exit in round 1. 2019 they were the 1 seed, scoring the most points in the league.... not even getting to the championship. In fact, of the past 10 years of the league this team has managed to make the playoffs 7 times... win the regular season 3 times, finish with less than three losses 4 times... all to only make the championship 1 time. Is this the year?
Trade of the Year: ARBL and Nips and Salsa
This trade consisted of...
3rd RB drafted
2nd QB drafted
4th QB overall (3rd at the time)
18th WR overall (12th at the time)
annnnddd WR who has his NFL contract and guarantees voided.
Now the reason why this trade was amazing, was the entire scenario to make it work. ARBL was 2-4 and needed a win in a bad way. Jackson was injured and ended up not playing for 4 straight weeks. Barkley was underperforming by a mile. On the other side, Nips were 6-0 and could afford taking a big swing. Sometimes it pays off - they bring in Jackson and Barkley, but in return they are giving Prescott - who outperformed Jackson heavily. In the end, both teams make the playoffs and both teams ended up scoring their season high in the final week - not too bad!
Now, let's look at the Playoff Predictions!!
The Guru's Predictions
For those curious.... Nips and Salsa is the prediction for the eventual champions and the hoisting of the Ron Jeremy Trophy!
Mystery Guests Predictions
Mystery Guest has Bootay Pirates lifting the trophy.
An interesting tidbit... both brackets have Bake it Til Ya Make it losing in the first round to ARBL. I know for me I felt like I needed some kind of upset to take place to feel good about my bracket.... most likely it will end up happening with Nips and Salsa failing (yet again) to fulfill their destiny.
At the end of the day, don't forget - there is more than just pride on the line....
Champion: $180
2nd place: $80
As always, good luck to all - except ALL OF YOU - may you be stuck in a never end loop of teaching a blind kid how to ride a bike!
With Love
Commish
