A short time ago, in a galaxy very near to us...
Football has finally begun again
There was 12:08 left in the first quarter. The Patriots had marched down the field and looked like the juggernaut everyone had predicted them to be. Mike Gillislee punched in the touchdown and the fantasy stats were just beginning to pile-up. All across the nation you could hear screams of joy and moans of frustration.
Those who owned Gillislee would be extremely happy. He has now entered the L. Blount territory for the Patriots and that meant a lot of goal line touches and presumably touchdowns. Boy, oh boy, he did not disappoint. He totaled 45 yards. Yes, folks, that is all - just 45 yards. However, with his new role he found the endzone 3 times. Hopefully, you weren't playing against this guy!
Those who owned T. Brady could see flashbacks of simple goal line dump-offs fading away. When you are this dominate of a short yardage run team - you know they are handing the ball off. Sorry, Brady - no touchdowns for you!!
Now, as dominate as the Patriots looked on that first drive - and in all reality, the entire first half - the Chiefs looked just as bad...
Kareem Hunt (rookie) took his first NFL handoff and presumed to fumble. Instantly, everybody is searching their waiver wires looking Charcandrick West - I mean he is going to take over from here on out right? RIGHT?!?
Psyche (for those older gentlemen - this is a "hip" word that means "not", "kidding", or "wrong")
The very next drive the Chiefs hand the ball off to the rookie and 4 quarters later - one of the greatest rookie fantasy debuts was in the books. Hunt finished with 200+ yards and 2 touchdowns - and this guy fumbled on his first handoff? Are you kidding me? Good thing I wasn't playing against this guy!
However, I was facing the speedster Tyreek Hill. The Patriots had him pretty much under wraps, until he blew by them for a 70 yard bomb. As much as it pained me to watch my opponent's score sky rocket - it was a very badass move by Hill. Especially, the fact that he flashed the peace sign - what a baller!
That might be one of my favorite "in your face" moves by a receiver. It was just so simple. As soon as he flashed the peace sign it was over - no one was catching him. He even flashed it at the 20 yard line - are you kidding me!!!
Anyways....
So yes, Gillislee and and Hill had huge games. I was spot on when came to Hill...
"Get him in open space and he could take to the house every time"
Yes - no one is catching that guy. He is now the number 1 receiver in Kansas City and it looks like there is a new Alex Smith - one who is not afraid to throw the ball deep. Which, why would you be scared when you can't possibly over throw Hill?
Gillislee did prove to be a little bit of a surprise. Although, he did only manage 45 yards - his three touchdowns proved to be huge. The Patriots did exactly what I thought they would do - they cycled their backfield constantly. Gillislee did lead the way in touches, but I would not hold my breath. James White looked very good when he was in; and he is clearly the receiving back.
Overall, what a good game to start of the season. Plenty of big plays, plenty of stats - and who doesn't like watching the Patriots lose?
