Seriously though - just a simple "peace" sign to tell the defender - "You ain't catching me!" I just think it is right on the line of confident and enjoyable, but not too "showboaty" that he would lose the ball or catch a flag.
You remember the score to last Thursday's game.... 42-27. 42 to freakin' 27! Do you know the score to last night's game? 13-9. 13 to freakin' 9. There was one big play (D. Watson scrambling 40 yards for a touchdown. Oh, and by the way - that was the only touchdown all night!
These Thursday night games are back to normal and it does nothing but make me sad. We were tricked into thinking that these Thursday night games were going to be explosions of big plays and touchdowns. We were tricked into thinking that these Thursday night games gave the defense no time to prepare. We were tricked into thinking that these Thursday night games were going to be enjoyable.
Nah shawty - they are who we thought they were...
There is not enough recovery for the players. Without that time to game plan, recover, recuperate, (insert whatever synonym you would like) the players just simply don't have it in them. Let's be honest, they are super athletic freaks - but they are still humans!
There is only one real solution to this issue... teams coming off bye weeks play on Thursday. That has to be the case - other wise this Thursday night experiment will not last much longer. One might say - but Thursday night games have been around for 10 plus years!
Sure they have - originally airing in 2006. With the exception of the Thanksgiving Day games - most of those Thursday night games were not as mainstream as they are now. Many fans are beginning to notice how bad the football is getting on Thursday. Especially in a day and age when players are getting stronger and faster and sloppy play can result in injuries much easier - these can be dangerous if they don't have the proper time prior.
Now, don't get me wrong - I love watching football. I most certainly do not want football taken off Thursday nights. I think it makes the weekend seem to start a little sooner. It gives us something to look forward to and talk about on Friday. I just want it to be better football. So, give a team the bye then have them play on Thursday - problem solved. Hey Roger - you listening? I hope so.
Mwah
Oh and in case you didn't know (I am assuming you do, but just in case)
